  1. You have never read Dune?!? Jon, I am shocked. Other than the Bible, it is the book I have read the most times. I read it first at the age of 12, when home on a sick day, I decided early in the morning to read a book I had purchased through a book club. I finished the book late that night, having taken it with me to the kitchen table to read during lunch and dinner. As I grew older, more dimensions of the plot development and allusions to philosophy, religion, and international relations became more apparent. Even on that first day, I detected lessons on leadership and interpersonal relationships. I read the sequels that Frank Herbert wrote, then read also the prequels and additional sequels that his son wrote using his father’s voluminous notes. It is an amazing fictional universe. The original Dune and the fourth volume in the series, God Emperor of Dune remain among my personal favorites in the series. After Crime and Punishment, Dune is my second favorite novel that I have read, but also the one I know best. Dune won the Hugo and Nebula awards when it first came out, so it was recognized from the beginning as a classic. My younger son picked up my copy of Dune one day when he was thirteen and bored. He was hooked, and also has read all the prequels and sequels. Yes, I advise you to read it. I think that you will enjoy it.
