Quick illustration: CJ sent me a text: “Home Depot. Just park. Send me the #.” I did. The young man in his orange Home Depot vest came out, the rolling orange hand truck in front of him. He was bearded, rude, and curt.

“2?” he asked.

“Yes,” I responded. “Thank you.”

He opened the back of my SUV, without speaking. No human connection.

The irony struck me. Here I was, planting a shumard oak, a maple, some river birches–and yet, nothiing of human connection.

These things matter. It’s why I named my blog what I did–“Mind and Matters”–@japfth jonpirtle.com. What you mind, matters.

It matters how we treat one another. We need not just to reap, but to sow.
